FIREWIND MUSIC STUDIO

MMUS - BMUS - Dipl.Mus - BCRMT - RCM Certified Teacher

ABOUT ME:

I am an experienced teacher with a colourful and diverse musical background. Classical piano studies were the foundation of my training, which now includes music composition, jazz, music theory, music history, ear training, singing, improvisation, percussion and rhythm, piano pedagogy and ethnomusicology (music traditions from around the world). I have been teaching since 2011 and am very passionate about music education.

I have a myriad of music experience which allows me to offer my students a wide variety of possibilities in the realm of musical studies. My flexible background allows my students to eventually train in music that they like best. Traditional studies in classical music are a great foundation, but it is also important that students know how big the music realm really is; there are many genres and avenues - a niche for everybody:)

My specific goal with my students is to give them a solid foundation in basic musical concepts, all while keeping music fun and enjoyable. My philosophy is: if a student is inspired to play, then practice and hard work can follow more easily.

I hold a MMUS and a BMUS from the University of BC (composition and piano) and a music diploma (classical piano performance and jazz studies) from Vancouver Community College. I am a registered piano and composition teacher with the BC Registered Music Teacher’s Association and a certified teacher with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM).

It is my deepest desire as a teacher to encourage and inspire my students so they have a life long and happy connection to music. It a wonderful gift to be a music teacher!
